The design had to allow for the difficult environmental conditions present at windows. Namely, varying temperature, moisture, and sunlight, which all have a considerable effect on solid wood. Douglas Fir was chosen for its exceptional durability, minimal moisture movement and clean grain.
As always with solid wood, the traditional design and making principles of framed/panelled construction are a necessity for it to function and last. The panels are shaped to have tongues which “float” in grooves in the frames, allowing the wood to expand and contract naturally, preventing warping or splitting.
Flush panels offer the most contemporary, clean look possible with traditional joinery. The thick front sections of this window lining allow for a very large round on the outside edge which lifts it into a modernist aesthetic.
