The design of the Production Chair No.1 began with the TEPASSE Split Leg concept (patent applied for) which harnesses solid wood’s natural elasticity and strength to create stiffness, allowing for minimal use of materials and exceptional lightness.
This design philosophy was carried through to every aspect of the chair. Every component supports and tensions the other, holding them taut. This complimentary combination of flexibility and stiffness results in an extremely comfortable chair that adjusts to the human form.
Without an undercarriage holding the legs rigid or thick-sectioned material, they have the freedom to indistinguishably splay under load and make four points of contact on moderately uneven floors: Preventing the chair from rocking.
There is very little waste in its production. The whole of the board is used: the legs, bow and backrest are taken from the edges which provide straight grained material, while the seat is taken from the middle.
